Throughout the mostly quiet forest of Akaichi, a soft song could be heard. It was upbeat and cheery, and if you searched for the source, you would find a young man lying happily on a hammock(which must have taken some time to put up, as it was very high up off the ground beside what looked like a tree house). One leg was hanging off dangerously, but he didn’t seem to mind. His dark eyes were closed as he seemed to play the song off by heart, or perhaps he was improvising, and he swayed the hammock slowly, seemingly unafraid of the idea that the hammock could snap and fall. He began to sway his head along to his playing, giving the world a satisfied smirk as he did so. This was how Jakobe wanted to spend his days forever: lying around where he wanted, playing what he wanted and not having to worry about a thing. This was why he moved out of Deizura! Sure, it was a nice place, but it was too small and tight for his liking. It was also kind of boring, and so Jakobe would only go there to get food when he needed to. He preferred the wildlife that surrounded him, and especially the faint sound of the waterfall. That’s what he liked most about his home, he suspected. Also, no parents to bug him. Where they were now, it was much more peaceful than this wretched place.
He finally opened his eyes, his playing getting a little slower as he seemed distracted. He gazed upwards, barely managing to see the blue sky above through all the leaves. He’d have to trim them at some point so he got enough sunshine into his home, he hated having to use candles and such. That was one of the downsides of having a tree house: no electricity! Now, this didn’t mean Jakobe was totally unhygienic. He’d do his best to go to the public baths and procrastinate cleaning himself up every week. But right now, thankfully, he was clean and smelling nice if he did say so himself. He smiled a little at the sky, winking at it before sitting up on his hammock and stopping the playing for now. Gripping the neck of the ukulele, he looked round, the hammock swaying dangerously and he reached out and grabbed the bark of the tree holding one end of the hammock up. With surprising strength he hauled himself out and leapt over the small gap between his little bed and the balcony of his tree house, landing safely.
His stomach let out a loud growl, catching his attention, and he twitched a little. Putting a comforting hand to his stomach, he walked into his messy one room tree house and looked round at the kitchen area. The fruit bowl was empty… And so, most likely all the cabinets would be too. He sighed in desperation and put his ukulele down and walked back out onto the balcony, stretching his hands over his head. Grunting, he stopped off of the balcony with ease and landed on his two feet with a thud, his red open jacket flaring around him before flattening against his body calmly. He scratched the side of his head and sighed, beginning to make his way from his nice home. Hopefully he could just avoid the shinobi training grounds altogether today. NOTES |

After all just one look at his rather small form and someone would think he was a kid probably no older than 16 maybe a little more if he was lucky. To be honest, Hakudoshi didn't really know why he had decided to make a trip to the North Kingdom. After all, he knew more than anyone else that the kingdoms were feuding right now, and if anyone actually caught him here, well that was that. The man had honestly been trying to get back to the South Kingdom. Every once in a while the white-haired boy missed his old home. So, things had never really changed since had left the kingdom. Who knew he would be born in the South and end up becoming the Kage of the East? He certainly didn't. After all he hadn't really though he would become anything of true importance. Some ego huh? Hakudoshi shook his head as thoughts raced through his mind that didn't really need to be there. He was lucky, though. He was lucky that no one had managed to actually catch him. Hakudoshi wasn't stupid though. He kept off main roads and preferred scenery anyway. Hakudoshi could just barely feel the weight of the sword on his back. He hated that it came to violence now a days. He hated stuff like that with a burning passion. He hated fighting and would much rather, work things out than fight over something stupid. The new land however, did interest him, he would say. But then again, what didn't interest the boy. As he walked through the forest, his own stomach rumbled a bit. The white-haired boy felt his hood fall off that had been hiding both his sword and his hair. "Why in god's name to you have to act up now?" he said to himself. He sighed before he heard a soft noise. His eyes instantly flickered in the direction of the noise. A boy was there. He wasn't quite sure who he was, but he didn't know which made him weary. He didn't know if this guy was a shinobi or if he would recognize him. Hakudoshi slowly tried to move back into the shadows but accidentally stepped right on a twig causing a loud sound to echo through the quiet forest. Hakudoshi just wanted to hit himself right then. Okay, he totally deserved to get attacked now. He looked round at the sound of a twig snapping, raising an eyebrow. Jakobe wasn’t totally territorial of this home, but if someone was out there watching him or coming near his house for any reason(referring to shinobi, mostly) he would need to investigate and tell them to get lost. He didn’t like shinobi sneaking around his area, especially with their filthy, bloody hands. The boy frowned, blinking at the general area he heard the snap and slowly made his way over, putting his hands in his large pockets. He had no weapons to defend himself, but if he needed to he could easily turn into a lemur and flee. Hopefully no one would bother attacking him though. Not that he had an intimidating demeanour, but it was usually impolite to attack someone when they’ve done absolutely nothing wrong. Jakobe hadn’t insulted anyone recently, and as far as he could tell he hadn’t gone near any girls that had boyfriends. He hadn’t gone near any girls at all in the past few weeks now that he thought about it. Jakobe smiled a little to himself, but then remembered the situation and stepped through the trees, pushing some plants away with his feet. Scanning the area, he frowned, almost completely missing the smaller gentleman.
When he saw him, however, Jakobe blinked in surprise. He wasn’t expecting someone so… Small. Ha, this was just a kid! And he was getting all worked up mentally for some sort of negotiation with a big shinobi. Feh. Not that this person couldn’t be one, he was probably one of the lower levels, but hopefully he would be intimidated a little bit and back off. Keeping his hands in his pockets, Jakobe stared at Hakudoshi and smirked a little, trying to give off a cocky air. This was usually the best way to deal with kids these days. Not that he wanted them to go away, but he had never seen this guy around before. Was it possible he was some sort of spy? Surely a spy would be a bit more camouflaged. Either way, he was found now. Jakobe looked him up and down, spotting the sword and the corners of his lips twitched, and his smirk disappeared. So he was a shinobi after all. Jakobe didn’t know many civilians that wandered around with swords on their backs. Even Jakobe didn’t carry around weapons, although that did have something to do with his pacifist-beliefs. It had everything to do with his beliefs, actually. Looking back at the boy, now trying to make eye contact, he finally spoke up.
“What’re you doing out here?” his question didn’t seem too friendly, and his tone wasn’t either. Jakobe was all for being nice and forgiving, but shinobi rubbed him the wrong way. They fought and were cold blooded killers in his eyes. This child was going to grow up to be no different. It was a little sad, really. Would he have some sort of real life to look forward to? Jakobe wasn’t one to keep up with politics and shinobi though, which was why he had no idea who this man was and that he was, in fact, a man. Much older than him, too. Jakobe wasn’t a patronising person naturally thankfully, so he wouldn’t treat Hakudoshi like a complete idiot. NOTES |

Well, he had really expected someone more threatening to be honest. The boy probably looked like he was a kid anyway which probably saved his butt a lot more than he wished it would. He hated his height most of the time, people of his kingdom didn't think he was suited for his title, for a lot of things, that included. He let out a soft sigh when Jakobe didn't seem like he was going to actually fight him. Though the boy probably was a little weary of him either way. Hakudoshi didn't blame him. Everyone was worried now in days because of the war that was going on. It was only when Jakobe took in his appearance that Hakudoshi got a little annoyed. Instantly the boy took on an air of "cockiness" as if he wasn't someone to be trifled with. Hakudoshi, didn't like it when people did that but he never really said anything about it. He had always treated people kindly no matter what they thought of him, but no one had ever done this to him. Perhaps that was because the people of his kingdom knew who he was, this kid, did not. When his smirk disappeared, Hakudoshi expected trouble. This guy didn't seem to like his sword and Haku couldn't blame him he guessed. Hakudoshi glanced at him when he asked such a simple question. He could say just about anything to that one and it would be the truth. Hakudoshi absolutely hated lying and tried to avoid it at all cost. This was a different story though wasn't it? No. Hakudoshi wasn't sure that even in this situation he could lie. The tone that the boy gave off however, was one that was not pleasing to the ears. Hakudoshi let out a sigh and shook his head. "Do you normally ask such straight forward questions? Normally when you meet someone for the first time you introduce yourself. Since you asked me though, I will answer. I am a traveler, so I was traveling through the forest, my name is Hakudoshi. " he said. He didn't intend on giving his last name unless the man asked and he hoped he wouldn't. After all, it was extremely hard for Hakudoshi to lie. Tch, big words for such a little kid! Jakobe couldn’t help but look on in amusement as he spoke. His voice was certainly mature for such a small man, but Jakobe would never guess that he was actually an adult. He was a bit too stupid in that aspect, and so it was probably a good thing he wasn’t a shinobi. Everyone would be much safer. But concentrating on the boy in front of him, Jakobe smirked a little. So much for intimidating the kid away. If he was from the North Kingdom though, he would have probably heard of Jakobe from the villagers. A nice guy that lived in the forest and usually kept out of peoples’ way unless he needed something. That’s the sort of life Jakobe liked, too. He liked his reputation, and felt it was much better than some of the shinobi’s that came to mind. Not wanting to let his mind become hateful, he concentrated on the situation he was in again, blinking when Hakudoshi told him his name. Now, not only was Jakobe not up to date with politics, he was also not very good with names, especially supposedly famous ones. So right now, Hakudoshi was just some kid that had lost their way and was on a bit of a tall horse.
“Alright. I’m Jakobe Dan.” he introduced himself, smiling at him. He didn’t notice Hakudoshi didn’t offer his surname, as Hakudoshi was a mouthful itself, “Travelling? Huh, I knew I didn’t recognise you.” He felt good to be right, and Jakobe’s smile widened as he felt more relaxed. Not that he wasn’t relaxed in the first place, but the thought of this guy attacking him pestered his mind. Although he still had a sword, and Jakobe eyed it, keeping his smile(which seemed to turn fake for a few moments as his eyes laid on the weapon), and he then looked back at Hakudoshi. Nah, this kid couldn’t attack him!
“So, I gotta ask.” he continued, now taking his hands out his pockets, “Shinobi, right? What with that stupid sword.”
Jakobe didn’t think things through, this much was obvious. Calling the man’s weapon ‘stupid’ could be the wrong move that got himself beheaded, but that didn’t occur to him. He just did not like shinobi, and so he would probably take any chance to criticise them. Would he insult them to their face? Evidently, although he probably wouldn’t do it to people that seemed emotional about it. Jakobe didn’t care if they ‘protected the people of their kingdom’, it was complete bullshit if you asked him. He could protect himself, and so it should really be ‘the shinobi protect the people of their kingdom, minus that guy’. Although, surely if there were no shinobi, Jakobe would be busy defending himself from thugs and such every day. Not fighting them back at all, and that would surely end badly. Jakobe ignored those sort of thoughts though; thinking of the shinobi in a new light was unfamiliar and unwanted. NOTES |

To be honest, he really didn't feel any danger from him anyway. At least that meant that most likely he wouldn't get attacked. After all, during this war, if another Kage dared step into someone else's home without a arrangement, it was basically suicide. Ah, the wonders a war such as this could bring. And, Hakudoshi, just being himself hated wars and everything that meant anything having to do with them. Haku however was surprised when no hate or anger appeared in the boy's eyes from his name. Sure, he hadn't given his last name, but most people around here knew who he was just from that first name. He blinked slowly before the man introduced himself to Hakudoshi. So, this guy really didn't know who he was. Hakudoshi didn't know exactly what to feel then. Glad, or simply shocked at how in the dark this kid was. Hakudoshi wouldn't question it though, after all this kid not knowing who he was, was a definite bonus in his own opinion. After all, Haku really didn't want to fight unless he absolutely had to. He had never really liked fighting beyond his sword techniques and even using them put a lot of strain on the male. After all, he had never really liked fighting in his time and in some ways even that, made the boy wonder sometimes why he was chosen to become a kage. Hakudoshi almost missed the boys second statement. Ah, so at least he had noticed that he wasn't from his village. That was good enough. Hakudoshi didn't really think that statement needed to be replied to so he didn't really say anything. That was when the boy's eyes trailed to his sword. Instantly a slight frown crossed the male's features. He didn't like the look that formed on Jakobe's face. He could tell it was fake but he really didn't want to cause any fighting. After all, Haku had never been one to like fights, as stated many times before. And to the male, this kid did not seem like he was a shinobi, not even close. So it made the man wonder, if this guy hated them. It wouldn't of surprised the male if he did. A lot of fighting and bloodshed were caused by shinobi like himself. It made the male sad really. He let out a mental sigh before his eyes flickered back to Jakobe who had spoken once again. A question? Hakudoshi could deal with that he guessed. Depending on what it was of course. He didn't think it would be about who he was so Hakudoshi didn't worry about that. There was just the little fact that he couldn't lie. Such a curse and a blessing in that one. Haku's eyes instantly looked into the other male's at his statement. Stupid Sword. He didn't know why but those words seemed to tear into him. His sword was special to him and had meant a lot to him because of the person who had given it to him. In many ways it wasn't a weapon but instead a part of him. Hakudoshi could feel his mood change to something almost like depression, but why would he get so upset over just one comment? "Why is it that swords and other such weapons are always assumed to be only for killing? It seems that all we are now in days are killers and don't care about anything else but bloodshed. How is it, that it always seems that simple to people?" he said softly. He looked at Jakobe again, but this time his eyes seemed filled with regret and sadness almost. "I want to show you something." he said softly. Slowly his hand reached to his sword but he jumped back away from the male as to not, let him think that he was going to attack him. As hakudoshi pulled the sword from its sheath the sword seemed to reflect light making it look the color of ice. "Swords, not only destroy... but they also heal." he said softly. He took a soft breath and closed his eyes as chakra formed over the sword. Instantly the male turned striking the sword against a tree. It seemed as if the tree would be cut deeply from the chakra and from the sword. But nothing happened at all at first. Before a bright light appeared for a moment concealing everything from sight. When the light finally faded the tree he had hit no longer had multi colored leaves that signaled autumn was here, instead petals of sakura started to fall from the tree and all of its leaves were green. It was probably the healthiest the tree had been in years. Hakudoshi quickly returned his sword to its sheath and stared up at the tree. "I wish the world was that easy to heal, that we could all be smiling and simply watch the petals of a sakura tree fall and just be happy to be in a world with only piece, with no need for shinobi." he said softly. Slowly the male turned to look at Jakobe. On his face just barely visible there, were a few tears that had escaped him, but were hidden slightly. "That... is a world that I look forward to. Were there are no enemies, and we are all... just one family together, no kingdoms attached." Jakobe watched Hakudoshi. He wasn’t one to notice a change in emotion unless they made it obvious through the tone of their voice or their actions: Jakobe was never very good at seeing things for more than what they were. But when he looked at Hakudoshi, he could feel the change of mood around them, and his smile faltered when he began to speak. He hadn’t expected a good reaction from his question in the first place, but at least he didn’t seem angry in any way. He kept his hands in his pockets, but his arms tensed as the man moved his hand for his sword. Shinobi were good at concealing their feelings, perhaps this gentleman was using that to his advantage. But while he spoke, Jakobe had a feeling he wasn’t in the mood for fighting right now. Call it a hunch, but Jakobe would trust his gut instincts. He eyed the sword carefully, narrowing his eyes a bit at the shining blade to avoid getting hit by the rays, but he noticed its magnificent colour. While Jakobe wasn’t one to compliment weapons, it was surely quite beautiful for a sword.
He opened his mouth to argue about his statement. He knew swords could not heal, and while he had no intentions of learning about chakra or any special tricks Shinobi could do, he had a feeling they weren’t that powerful. Perhaps it was just his bitter attitude towards Shinobi, which many found odd. Usually a nice guy, people didn’t expect him to be so negative and unforgiving to Shinobi. Even those of his own Kingdom, he would ignore and gladly walk away from when he got the chance. But even knowing this kid was a shinobi… He had something to say to Jakobe, and he’d hear him out. He crossed his arms in disbelief as he moved to hit the tree, and felt his stomach turn in disgust. That tree wasn’t his property, what did he think he was doing?
“Hey, if you’re just gonna th-” he stopped, staring and closing his eyes with a flinch. When he felt the bright light disappear, he stared at the tree and his jaw fell open. Hakudoshi was right. He had turned that tree from something dying and unsightly to… That. That beautiful blossom tree. He watched as one or two weak petals fell against the soft wind, and Jakobe blinked in disbelief.
Looking back at Hakudoshi, he finally closed his mouth and looked at him with a serious expression. He wasn’t going to belittle or hassle this kid. Especially with the way he was speaking: they both agreed on something. Jakobe despised this kingdom and fighting business. It made no sense! We weren’t each other’s enemies, and if we just sat and talked things out it would be fixed. Jakobe understood it might not be that easy, but it couldn’t be that difficult either. “You and I agree on something.” he nodded sagely, “But by the time that utopia comes round, I think I might be gone. This war is leading up to something huge, and whether I’ll be gone because I left, or gone because I’ve been killed, I don’t know. But I know this war won’t die… As easily as I would, at least.”
He made his way for the blossom tree and gently put a hand on the bark, feeling the life pulsing through it. That kid was something. “If you want that world, what are you doing to get it?” he questioned, his tone turning solemn. He had been asked that once, a few years ago. He turned his head to look at Hakudoshi curiously, awaiting his answer. Would it compare to his own? NOTES |
